Lisa Ulett: Emphasizing the Importance of Relationships as EMC's New Director of Procurement

June 29, 2023

A month into her new role as EMC’s director of procurement, Lisa Ulett already draws many parallels between the lighting industry and her past experience working in commercial construction and home building with Pulte Homes.

“There’s contracting materials, labor and turnkey solutions—but what really stands out is that same importance of working with labor partners and suppliers and having a shared understanding of the challenges that exist in the field,” Lisa said about her new role. “My career has been about forming those long, mutually beneficial partnerships—something that I could immediately see was important at EMC.”

Lisa felt immediately that EMC was a place where she could take all the skills she had acquired in past roles and apply them in an exciting, innovative and driven environment. “I was totally energized and immediately knew I wanted to work here.”

Lisa is examining ways to increase efficiencies via install runs and grouping work, as well as how to expand labor partner scope of work through new opportunities in other parts of EMC’s business, like EV charging.

Process improvements are another focus area: Lisa is looking at how to further increase the time between when projects are awarded and when they start, collaborating with EMC’s Project Management team to improve these timelines. She is finding the teams are innovative and collaborative: “It’s refreshing!”
