Lower Incentives for LEDs

Now that we’re into March, most 2016 programs have been launched. As expected, we’re seeing a variety of changes to 2016 programs.

Some programs are cutting their incentive rates across the board in order to extend their funding periods, others are implementing more customer caps to spread out the funds more evenly.

The biggest change I’ve seen is with LED screw in and pin based bulbs. Because the cost of these lamps has decreased in the marketplace, utility programs are also decreasing their incentives.

For example, Con Edison recently announced that their prescriptive rebates for LED lamps are going down by $5-10 depending on the type of lamp. Rocky Mountain Power also sent out a notice that LED incentives will be decreasing as soon as March.

As LEDs become more popular and cost effective, incentive levels will continue to decrease. Be sure to take advantage of LED incentives while they are available.
