We saw a return to normal with the NALMCO Spring Seminar taking place in person March 1–3, 2022, at the Embassy Suites Lake Buena Vista in Orlando, Florida. While numbers were expected to be lower than normal, a surge in activity during the last two weeks of registration more than doubled the attendee list.

As always, it was an excellent opportunity to reconnect and make new contacts within the lighting industry. The NALMCO Spring Seminar provides news and information regarding the latest trends in our industry as well as an in-person CLMC content review and exam proctoring. The format of rotating learning labs is geared specifically towards field service technicians and operational staff. If you haven’t attended one before, plan to attend the 2023 session. The NALMCO Board has received positive feedback from attendees and we look forward to continuing this format for future Spring Seminar events.

Updated CLMC Exam Launches

Making its debut at the NALMCO Spring Seminar was the updated CLMC Exam, which went live online February 28.

Updated with 60% fresh new content on LEDs, lighting controls, code/compliance requirements and more, the Exam is ideal whether you are newer to the industry (with a minimum of three years verifiable relevant experience) or are a seasoned expert looking to freshen your skills.

Delivered in-person at NALMCO-sponsored events or virtually online, the exam covers:

  • Characteristics and proper usage of lamps, ballasts and usage of fixtures and controls
  • Lighting layout designs and applications
  • Energy conservation related to lighting and controls
  • Lighting maintenance, recycling and disposal practices
  • Sustainable lighting practices

Available anytime online, the exam will be offered again in person at the NALMCO Annual Convention & Trade Show, October 16–19, 2022, in Glendale, Arizona.

CALT/CSLT Exams Refresh Planned for Next Year

The CALT/CSLT Exams are scheduled for a refresh by next year. The update will add new, industry relevant content about the latest technologies while retaining exam subject matter on legacy products still encountered in the field daily.

CALT/CSLT Exams in Spanish

Recognizing that many field service technicians are Spanish speakers, NALMCO announced the intent to translate the CALT and CSLT Exams into Spanish. No specific planning has taken place yet, but if this is of interest to you or others at your company, please let me know by emailing me at bbaker@emcllc.com.

Certification Discounts

NALMCO members seeking certifications can receive a discount if specific criteria are met. Request details by emailing me at bbaker@emcllc.com
