8.5 Billion kWh Saved by EMC Projects Announced this Earth Day

As we celebrate Earth Day’s 50th anniversary this April 22 amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, EMC is over a third of the way to achieving its goal of delivering 25 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) by 2025. While it took a decade for the company to achieve its first billion kWh in savings, large-scale retail and industrial projects involving energy saving LED lighting and controls delivered two billion in savings in the past 12 months alone.

“Organizations that helped capture our first billion in energy savings continue to seek EMC solutions to significantly reduce their energy spend and enhance building environments for customers and employees,” said EMC CEO and Chairman Jerry Johnson. “Now as we battle Covid-19, they are turning to us for disinfectant lighting solutions that aid in safeguarding the health of employees and the people they serve.”

Depending on the technology used, disinfectant lighting kills pathogens with 99.9% effectiveness to supplement traditional cleaning methods. Most commonly utilized in health care and public transportation with mobile and permanent solutions, EMC foresees emerging opportunities for retail, recreation and education. EMC partners with customers to ensure human safety requirements are considered when determining the most effective solution.

“The year 2020 will be a game changer for many of our customers,” said Johnson. “From dealing with the elevated need for disinfecting, to optimizing lighting in environments where people are working overtime during the pandemic, EMC is here to help. And we’ll be ready to help flatten operating costs for those organizations as they recover from the economic impacts of the virus.”

EMC’s Efficiency-as-a-Service (EaaS) offering provides clients the ability to upgrade their facilities with energy efficient LED lighting and controls with no up-front cost, no performance risk and without negative impacts to their balance sheets.

“EaaS is just one way EMC is supporting businesses that strive to save energy and meet corporate sustainability goals during this unprecedented time,” said Johnson.

EMC provides best-in-class LED lighting + technology solutions and services to a broad range of multinational retail, commercial, industrial and specialized customers.
